Happy Thanksgiving from Writing Wyoming

As writers, we can be thankful for...
  • Writing group buddies who see the beauty in what we've created
  • Conferences where we can gather and connect with other like-minded souls
  • Time alone to think, reflect and write, maybe in a very special place of our own
  • Books we read that feed our own writing
  • The people we love who inspire us.
  • The joy of publishing that piece or placing in a contest.
  • Chocolate. And coffee. Maybe a glass of red wine.
  • And pie. Definitely pie.

Gratitude journals
Many people keep a daily journal where they write down what they are thankful for. If you do not already, you may want to consider making this part of your writing life -- either a separate journal, or as a beginning to your writing journal.

Every time my co-blogger Lynn starts a new notebook, she randomly puts sticker dots throughout the pages. Whenever she comes to a dot, she stops what she is writing and makes a list of things she is grateful for.

Thanksgiving Miscellany

  1. I am grateful for people like you guys who post on blogs with clever, timely, encouraging words. I'm going to start using up all those sticky dots I've been keeping for years now that I have found a use for them!

  2. You made me laugh, Susan, because that is EXACTLY how I decided to start using the dots :-) I had a stockpile of them from a previous job and wondered what the heck to do with them. Thanks for the comment.

  3. On my refrigerator is a magnet with a quote from Elbert Hubbard:

"Do not take life to seriously. You will never get out of it alive."

I am grateful for YOU, my serious writer friends at Writing Wyoming, who consistently inspire me to write my best stuff, but who are also seriously funny, encouraging me to hold it all lightly, which helps to create the space and freedom for me to write anything at all. I am grateful for your support.

  4. Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving! I am thankful for you guys also. I love the writing prompt. I think I'm going to write that thank-you note! I know just the person to send it to- my childhood best friend and the first person in grade school who didn't want to kick my nerdy butt, and who actually saved me from many a beat-down. I owe her a lot of thanks!
